Former Sidney bank VP gets prison time for embezzling $1.3M
A former Sidney Nebraska bank vice president has gotten 3 1/2 years in federal prison for embezzling more than $1.3 million from Points West Community Bank, $82,000 of it straight from the vault. Matthew Monheiser, 38, pleaded guilty in April.
His attorney, Clarence Mock, said the crime was motivated and fueled by Monheiser’s psychological gambling issue and left his life in shambles. “Gambling took everything I worked my whole life for,” Monheiser said. “I can’t apologize enough.” He said it ruined the career he loved and will haunt his wife and kids, who he called victims of his crime.
